Bible Verse (NIV)
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
— Romans 8:28 (NIV)
Reflection
This verse is often misunderstood. Some people use this verse as proof that they’ll experience a pain-free and successful life. They expect the Lord to restore every opportunity lost and bring happiness from every unpleasant moment they face. But when Paul wrote this, he was facing beatings, prison, and persecution. His life was anything but easy.
What Paul teaches us is that God’s idea of good isn’t about giving us material blessings or a pain-free life. It’s about making us more like Jesus. When troubles come, God uses them to shape our hearts, build our faith, and draw us closer to him. Think about the disciples. Most of them suffered for their faith. Yet, they saw God’s glory in ways we can’t imagine. It’s during these difficult times that we can lean on Bible verses about strength and courage.
The promise isn’t comfort here on earth, but a guarantee that God is using everything for a greater eternal purpose. Today, we must ask ourselves, are we trusting God to turn our hardships into something that transforms us? This verse doesn’t promise that every story will end with a happy earthly outcome, but it does promise that nothing is wasted in God’s hands. Remember that we can always find hope in hard times by turning to scripture.
Even the darkest seasons can produce a deeper relationship with him. Many believers have testified that their greatest sufferings brought the sweetest intimacy with Jesus. Let’s hold tight to this. Our present pain is temporary, but God’s glory and love are forever. No matter what we face, he is working for our good and his glory.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding us that you are always working behind the scenes, even in our struggles. Help us to trust your purposes and not lose hope when life feels heavy. Give us faith to see that our present trials are shaping us to be more like Jesus. Remind us that nothing can separate us from your love and your plan is always for our good. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
