Bible Verse (NIV)
Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Reflection
The Bible is complex in many ways, yet beautiful. We are so blessed to have our homes filled with them, which was not the case when the church was first formed.
Today, many Christians don’t understand the use of the Bible. But in Hebrews, we see God speaks to us through the Bible. God uses the words in the Bible to speak to us, guide us, teach us about him, and comfort us.
We may not fully understand how, but if we regularly read scripture, we’ll see how God shows us exactly what we need right when we need it. Whether we’re looking for security, feeling uninspired, or needing encouragement, there are verses for every season.
As Christians, if we want direction and guidance from God, he will give it to us through his word and through prayer. His guidance comes in his timing, not ours.
Also, the Bible doesn’t change. While everything else in this world seems to be changing, the Bible stays constant because God never changes.
Our age changes, our jobs evolve, leaders rise and fall, and children grow up. Even if we don’t like change, it’s a reality of life. Many today try to modernize the Bible to match today’s culture. But God’s word doesn’t shift.
And lastly, the Bible is sanctifying. It keeps us on the straight and narrow path. This is why some people avoid it. It’s hard to be told we’re wrong and need to change.
But if we’re not letting God correct us through his word, then who is? We need to read the Bible daily, asking him to show us his will. Whether we need direction, encouragement, or correction, scripture is God’s tool to work in our hearts and guide us every day.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us your powerful word. Help us to open our Bibles with faith, believing that you will speak to us. Teach us to trust your word over the voices of the world. Thank you that you never change and neither does your word. Let it be our light in dark times, our comfort in pain, and our guide when life is unclear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
