Bible Verse (NIV)
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” — John 14:6
Reflection
When we think about this verse, we might wonder about the people who lived before Jesus came. How could they be saved if the cross hadn’t happened yet?
The Bible shows us that God’s plan for salvation has always been through Jesus. Even in the Old Testament, people like Abraham, Moses, and David trusted in God’s promise of a Savior, even though they didn’t know his name yet.
Hebrews 11 tells us about their faith, saying they looked forward to a Redeemer who would come and make things right. Their sacrifices and obedience were signs of faith in God’s promises. They were saved not by animal sacrifices, but by the blood of Jesus that would one day be shed on the cross.
God counted their faith as righteousness just as he does for us today. For us, the cross is a completed promise. We look back to what Jesus did. While Old Testament believers looked forward to it, early people, though they did not know the name Jesus, believed in the God who saves.
Each of them in their own way looked forward to the Deliverer who would come. Salvation has always been about trusting God’s plan, not our own. Think about Noah building the ark or Abraham offering his son. They trusted God even when they didn’t understand everything.
We too are called to put our faith fully in Jesus, the only way, truth, and life. Whether before the cross or after, it has always been Jesus who saves.
Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your perfect plan of salvation. Thank you for sending Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life. Help us to put our trust completely in him and to share this hope with others. Remind us that your love and mercy have never changed. We give you all the glory for saving us by grace through faith. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
